Top Positive Review
As an artist, I’m super picky when it comes to sketch books but this one is just perfect for me! The paper is thick and feels super high-quality it doesn’t let anything through! The sketchbook feels very nice in the hand and has a nice weight to it. I also really like the fun details, like the purple inside cover with the cute illustrations. Def my favorite sketchbook!
Top Critical Review
TLDR; 3 stars because ultimately a lot of pages of decent thickness for good price, however significant ghosting with alcohol markers, and it arrived smudged from inner cover’s ink. Might be better off with Canson XL Mixed Media if you like this paper but not the bleeding.
We’re a family of artists, but this was for my 12 year old who draws constantly every day, so she uses professional grade products (or equivalent) as much as I can afford. Before getting her Copics, we started with Blick alcohol markers and then Ohuhu (which are FABULOUS!) and worked flawlessly with the Ohuhu marker drawing books. We’ve seen good reviews for a different sketchbook used by Rin of DrawingWiffWaffles on YouTube, I forget the name, but I got this Articka version instead because the other wasn’t in stock. Well! It arrived with the corners smushed up (in fairness not a huge deal because the padded cover seems to get indents from the elastic strap which ‘fade’ after a bit), but more annoyingly, the ink from the purple inner covers smudged onto the first and last drawing pages. My daughter was so eager to draw, she covered up the ink smudge creatively before I could take a picture, but I’ll include what she did to cover it as well as the back page which still has some of the smudge. The pix don’t show how visible the smudge is. My daughter says the paper ghosts more with Ohuhu alcohol markers than the previous Ohuhu brand book, so I don’t think we’ll be buying this one again. Also, no inner pocket, which I already knew but I’m noting that in case it helps anyone.
Customer Questions & Answers
Can this be used as a glue book?
Answer: Yes it can, the pages are pretty thick, almost like card stock so yes it would work.
do alcohol based, water based, and copic markers bleed through the paper?
Answer: Yes??. This is for pencil, w/ lightweight paper.
Does marker bleed through to the back of the page?
Answer: No the marker does not bleed at all, unless it’s a sharpie, there was minimal bleeding.
Does this work well with pencils?
Answer: yes, it works well with pencil, pen and ink. if your planning to use color in your drawings use colored pencil. Paper to thin for watercolor.
Is it good enough for gouache. painting?
Answer: Its good for pencil and pen and ink. I have tried to use watercolor but the papers to thin for anything with water. I would not use gouache. find a paper that’s a little thicker maybe watercolor paper journal.
